Abstract: The monitoring committee is a representative body designed to gather ideas and opinions within the community regarding the type of tourist destination that community wishes to develop in the next ten years.
The critical question is:
what we are and where we want to go?

Las Terrenas, July 22 . Following on the recent visit of Mr. Luis Simo, deputy secretary of tourism, we formed a strategic planning committee to seek to formulate a vision of tourism development for the field over the next ten years. During the meeting the morning of Saturday 22 July at the local Community Library Anacaona, Mr. Simo discussed the importance of enhancing the impact of the visits held during the past year in relation to tourism security in Las Terrenas to include the development of this promising tourism community.
For this purpose the central government representative stressed the importance of constructing a vision of tourism development for Las Terrenas whose purpose is to turn Las Terrenas in a quality tourist destination. The official said that getting there is not only necessary to include all stakeholders in the community, but also include the private sector, including it in the logistical support.
He described to become a quality tourist destination requires disservice to improve the quality, awareness on tourism, including cultural theme, offering the roots historical entities create and attract cutlurales, street lighting, control noise, construction courts and provide a schedule of sports, as well as create attraction centers craft places.
The immediate need, he explained, is to create a forum where you can discuss the desired model of tourism development for Las Terrenas, considering the short-, medium and long term.
To these ends we created a monitoring committee for strategic planning of the municipality within the tourism framework. It was composed by Dr. Jose Bourget of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation coordinator and members were Ms. Alejandra Drullard, Mr. Melanio Rivera, Ms. Juana Marte and Luis Moses Vanderhorst.
The first meeting of the monitoring committee was set for Tuesday 25 July, in order to add other people that should ideally be part of the commission, as well as establish subcommittees as it should be part of jobs.
