Team "with Alicia Ortega Report" Portillo Visit
In response to our complaint in media, the production team of the "The Report with Alicia Ortega" visited Las Terrenas on Wednesday January 10, shooting scenes and interviewing people. During the visit we found that:
- has collected a lot of garbage, which is being pulled in a dumpster on the road new El Limon-Portillo. Know if they have permission to use a dump that I understand had been closed. Not only used to take construction waste but also for all debris from the hotel as the team shot Antena Latina.
- Haitians who still work at the site confirmed that they were not provided any medical services and that they were "the mountain" to relieve himself, also confirmed that it was hundreds of people working in that condition every day for months.
- the effect on wetlands can still be and about the new entry can still see plastics, vehicle tires and trash in general as abandoned buried within the wetlands.
- received a complaint that a mile of underground electrical cables belonging to the electric company of El Limón were destroyed during construction but so far the hotel owners are compensated or not respond appropriately to legal sites.
- received a complaint that an ecological tourism project, Parks Las Terrenas, a multimillion dollar investment and the first of its kind in the area, has been deeply affected by waste dumped garbage virtually the same input and affect the ecological area on its outskirts. Who wants to invest in a basudero? It seems that the Piñero Group policy is to bury their garbage on their land and will not be able to bury the neighbors check in front of their homes and businesses.

Distinguished Ambassadors:
Through this I make a complaint regarding the activities of Grupo Piñero and Bay Prince Hotels and Resorts of which there are four in the Samaná province.
The complaint (see http://terreneros.blogspot.com/ ) is based on four factors:
a) the environmental impact of reconstruction projects in hotels, where the management of solid waste, destruction forest use / abuse of wetlands have a continuing negative impact in the areas of impact;
b) the sanitary conditions caused by the absence of toilets and basic services for hundreds of employees working each day for months, they had to use "the mountain" and areas surrounding the building to their physiological needs, in violation of basic safety rules in a workplace mass;
c) working conditions in which hundreds Haitian citizens were brought in and paid by dubious means, in clear disregard for human dignity in their smallest expressions, and
d) the negative precedent that the actions described above created for the future of tourism in Samaná, especially coming from a company that unfortunately has been granted an ex-monopoly in the hotel market province.
I'm sure as the official representative of the English Government you understand that none of these conditions would be allowed on English territory and that you, as an advocate for the rights of English firms established in the country, which also include such actions sully the honor not only national but also the nation that you represent .
I require, therefore, your attention to this complaint and await your response in relation to how you proceed to investigate and respond to it.
